Suncrest Garden Club

The Suncrest Garden Club was re-established in 2015 with a generous grant from Lowe's. Various students from 3rd, 4th, and/ or 5th grades join the club at the beginning of each school year. The phrase "farm to fork" is realized as our amateur agronomists sow seeds indoors in winter, plant seedlings in raised beds in spring, water and weed in summer, and finally enjoy the fruits of their labors as harvesting commences in fall. The children work as a team to choose which plants will grow in the garden, paying special attention to symbiotic relationships and companion planting. They learn from experts in the field. Students make and eat garden snacks or take fresh vegetables home to their families. Gardening is a great way to teach kids about healthy eating, growing their own food, and taking care of the environment.
